Partitions Buyers Guide

What is a Partition?

Retractable Barriers

A partition is a freestanding wall used to divide spaces, provide privacy or display information. Our partitions are manufactured with either a loop and nylon material or wool mix, allowing for posters or other promotional materials to be pinned or velcroed on. They are a flexible and affordable way to create spaces and display information.

Many of our partitions and divider screens are also fire-retardant. This ensures they are safer within high-traffic environments, such as schools and offices, by containing the fire and slowing down the spread of flames.

Where are Partitions used?

  • Offices - Retractable partitions can divide open-plan offices into focused zones or breakout areas for collaboration and productivity. They also serve as display surfaces for internal communications and important information.
  • Schools and Nurseries - Partitions can be used to create reading corners, quiet zones, or play areas to encourage learning and creativity. They’re also useful for displaying student work during open days or parents’ evenings.
  • Universities - Partitions create dedicated study or project spaces. During exhibitions or open days, they provide a practical way to display student work and engage visitors.
  • Health Services - In healthcare settings, partitions can display health campaign posters or service information in waiting areas, helping visitors stay informed while creating a welcoming space.
  • Hotels - Partitions can be used in receptions or event spaces to display guides, schedules, or promotional materials.
  • Events - At exhibitions, trade shows, or recruitment days, partitions offer an organised way to present information, attract attention, and support visitor engagement.

How to choose the right Partition for you

What are the different types of partitions?

Flat Screen Partitions

Flat Screen Partitions

Available in a range of sizes, these partitions are ideal for dividing spaces and creating continuous walls. They offer a cost-effective solution for enhancing privacy, reducing noise, and creating functional spaces. With flat screen partitions you have the flexibility to mix and match colours and heights for dynamic spaces.

Folding Partitions

Folding Partitions

Folding panels offer flexibility in layout, enabling configurations such as U-shaped, L-shaped, or wave-like arrangements. These folding screens are also space-efficient, as they can be compactly folded for easier storage and transport. This type of partition is particularly useful in spaces where flexibility and quick layout changes are important.

What features can partitions have?

There are many different features that partitions can have. These features are not available on every model so you should consider your needs and the partitions placement to determine which screen will be right for you.

  • Screen Linking - Some partition models can be joined together using link strips to create a continuous, seamless wall. This setup eliminates gaps between panels, offering enhanced privacy and a clean visual appearance.
  • Rolling Wheels - Folding panels are equipped with rolling wheels and locking castors, making them easy to move and reconfigure. These wheels make set-up and transportation easy for a single individual.
  • Windows - Partitions with glazed window panels are well-suited to spaces where natural light is limited. They allow for some separation without blocking all the light, making them a practical option for areas that benefit from zoning without requiring full visual privacy.
  • Sound Absorption - Models with sound-absorbing materials help reduce noise by dampening sound through their internal structure. This feature is ideal for use in high-traffic areas like offices, classrooms, or collaborative spaces where controlling noise levels is important.
  • Rounded Corners - For improved safety, especially in environments with children or where lower-height partitions are used, some models feature rounded corners. This design helps minimise the risk of injury from sharp edges.
  • Large Size and Colour Options - Partitions are available in a variety of sizes, ranging from 1 to 4 metres in width and 900mm to 1800mm in height. The best size choice depends on the intended use. Shorter panels may suit a children’s reading corner, while taller ones offer greater privacy in office settings. A wide selection of colours is also available, from bold tones to more neutral shades, allowing for coordination with different settings.

Who can benefit from a partition and what applications are there?

Offices

Dividing open-plan offices into separate spaces to improve productivity and collaboration. Breakout areas or dedicated team zones provide flexible workspaces that cater to different needs. Additionally, displaying important information on these walls ensures that essential updates or announcements are easily accessible to employees.

Schools and Nurseries

Schools and nurseries can benefit from creating designated areas like reading nooks, quiet spaces, or play zones, fostering environments for learning and creativity. Partitions can also be used for displaying students' work during events like parents’ evenings or open days.

Universities

Universities can enhance their study environments by zoning specific areas for focused work or group projects. Additionally, partitions can be used on open days or project exhibitions to showcase students’ work, attracting prospective students and engaging the visitors.

Health Services

What features should I consider when choosing a partition?

There are many different features that partitions can have. These features are not always available on every model so you should consider your needs and the partitions placement to determine which screen you should invest in.

Screen links

On certain models, screens can be linked together with screen link strips to provide a seamless wall. This allows for maximum privacy by ensuring there are no gaps between panels.

Rolling wheels

Some models are available with rollable wheels and locking castors. This allows them to be easily moved around and reconfigured for different uses. A great addition for those who need a versatile screen.

Windows

Glazed window screens are ideal for low-light spaces that do not want to compromise on light levels. They allow spaces to be sectioned off whilst permitting light to flow through the room. They are also a great choice for those spaces that benefit from sectioning but do not need maximum privacy.

Folding panels

Partitions can also have multiple panels with hinges that allow them to fold. The clever design of these screens means there is freedom in the shapes that can be created, for example U-shaped, L-shaped or wave configurations. Folding screens are also easier to store and transport as long panel lengths can be folded to be a fraction of their full-length size.

Sound absorbing panel

Dividers with a sound-absorbing material allow sound to be absorbed through its carcass construction. This feature is ideal for use in busy offices or classrooms to reduce sound travel.

Rounded corners

For added safety, rounded corners can be chosen. These corners are less likely to cause accidents making them a great choice for environments with children or low-height partition walls.

Size and colour

Our partitions are available in a range of sizes from 1 to 4m widths, and 900 to 1800mm height. The size you’ll need will depend on your desired application. For example, for creating a small children's reading nook a smaller height panel would be best, whereas in an office breakout space, a tall panel would provide more privacy. Our panels also come in a variety of colours, from bright to neutral, to suit a variety of environments or business branding.
