Cable displays use pairs of thin steel cables to hold posters and other images. These cable systems can be used to create a neat and sleek display, where the images seem to be suspended in mid-air. Commonly used for window displays, cable displays can also be used against a wall. As well as displaying posters and images, cable displays can hold digital screens, illuminated panels, literature holders, and other components. A flexible modular system, cable displays can be expanded and tailored to your space and requirements.
Cable displays are a versatile promotional tool, with the ability to suspend cables between any two surfaces. They have traditionally been used for creating professional and easily updated window displays, with some popular applications including:
Cable displays have pairs of parallel cables that are strung vertically between two surfaces. One of the benefits of this type of display is that the fixing brackets can be attached to a wall, ceiling, floor, or a combination of the two. For example, for a window display, you can string cables from the floor of the window area to either the ceiling or to a 90Āŗ bracket on the wall above the window. The ability to attach cables to floors/ceilings or walls makes it possible to create displays of the exact size you want.
The basic installation technique is to measure and mark where you want your cables at the top connection point. Then, using a plum line to get a perfect vertical, mark the bottom positions. The cable fixings are attached using screws, so anyone with a drill and basic DIY skills can carry out the installation. Once the wall fixings and cables are in place, you can attach your poster pockets and other components to the cables. This is done with panel clamps that are tightened with an allen key. The panel clamps can be single- or double-sided and come in two sizes: small (for panels up to 4mm thick) and large (for panels up to 8mm thick).
One of the great advantages of cable displays is that you can add extra components to expand your system and tailor it to your space. We can supply a comprehensive range of individual parts and components. As well as the standard cables, fixings, and poster pockets, there a number of special tools and accessories available.
These panels have LEDs around the edge of each image, creating an illuminated display that is visible 24/7. Available in single panels or multi-panel combinations, these illuminated LED poster pockets are a fantastic way to make your window display stand out on a busy street.
Digital panels can be integrated into your cable display, offering instant updating and the ability to show video and multiple images on each panel. These are a popular tool for estate agent windows, where they can show hi-res photos and video clips of properties.
Literature holders can be included as part of a cable display system to store leaflets, brochures, and other promotional documents. These are a popular option for retail displays, showrooms, and exhibitions.
These dynamic turning displays use movement to grab the attention of passing customers. They can be illuminated with built-in LEDs and can display double the amount of images of a single-sided display.
When planning your cable display, an important consideration is the size of images you want to show. Poster pockets and panels are available in a range of standard formats including A0, A1, A2, A3, A4, and A5. There is also a choice of portrait or landscape orientation pockets for most sizes. You may want to have posters of all one size, while combinations of different sized images can make a window display more dynamic and visually interesting.
Another decision is the spacing between images. Images can be positioned in a continuous wall, with double-sided clamps letting poster pockets share cables. Alternatively, you may want to have a more spread out display with spaces between the images.
Cable displays can be bought in kits that include cables, fixings, and poster pockets, or you can buy components separately to create a bespoke set up. A benefit of kits is that they give you everything you need in a single package, often at a better price than purchasing the individual components separately. However, if you know the exact number of parts and components you need for your display, buying the elements separately may be the better option. Many people start off by buying a kit and then add extra components as needed.
