A Guide to Gantry Truss Stands

Our gantry truss stands are one of our more popular exhibition stand options. There are not many companies in the UK that produce these types of stands. The stands contain a few different elements so this guide should help to break everything down and give you a better idea of what truss stands are and why they could be the display solution for you.

What is a gantry truss stand?

A gantry truss stand is a type of stand, mainly used for exhibitions, that can be reconfigured to create different size walls or rooms. The stand is modular so pieces can be added or taken away, depending on the stand’s use. A unique feature of our truss stands is that they have pieces that fold so they can be easily assembled or disassembled with no tools required.

Our truss system is made from an aluminium composite meaning it is lightweight but incredibly strong. These types of stands are often more affordable than other types of exhibition stands so creating larger spaces is a more cost-effective option with a truss system.

Useful keywords to know:

Gantry: a bridge-like or overhead structure

Truss: a framework typically consisting of posts and struts supporting another structure

Struts: a rod or bar forming part of a framework, used for support

How does the truss system work?

The system is quick and easy to put together, with no tools required. However, if you’d like to speed the process up even further, you can use an electric screwdriver. To connect components together you simply unfold them, line up the thumbscrew with the thread and turn until tight.

When you order a gantry truss stand with Discount Displays, we will send you information on the easiest way to assemble your specific design.

The video below demonstrates how easy the truss system is to assemble.

How big can you build?

The maximum unsupported span we suggest is 4.5m. However, by adding additional struts there is no limit to the size of stand you can create. We have a large portfolio of pre-designed stands that include examples up to an impressive 8m x 5m. Alternatively, you can contact us for a free 3D design and quote for a bespoke stand designed by us.

What elements make up a truss stand?

The following elements make up a gantry truss stand:

  • Modules
  • Corner blocks
  • Connector crosses
  • Bases

Additional accessories:

  • Banners
  • Banner clips and profiles
  • Spotlights
  • Acrylic holders for brochures/leaflets
  • Shelving
  • Monitor (up to 50kg)

How does the gantry truss stand work with graphics?

We have a state-of-the-art in-house studio where we print quality graphics for your exhibition stand. We print your graphics onto straight-cut, reinforced 450gsm durable PVC. The graphics can be 3m wide by nearly any length.

The banners can be either single or double-sided. For truss stands, double-sided graphics refers to one banner on each side of the frame. One banner would be clipped onto the beam facing the front, and the other banner clipped on facing the back.

Our banner graphics also have a B1 fire resistance rating. This rating is classed as a low-flammable material, making it ideal for places with high traffic and lots going on such as exhibitions and showrooms.

What types of configurations are there?

The modular nature of the stands means they are highly versatile and offer several different configurations.

As a starting point, consider what you will be using the space for and the needs it should meet. For smaller or more simple stands, we would suggest starting by deciding how many sides you want. As an example, 1 wall with 3 open sides or 3 walls with 1 open side.

For larger stands or those with specific needs you can consider more unique configurations. For example, a sectioned-off area with tables and chairs for engaging with customers. You should also consider the additional accessories and stand furniture you will need when designing your stand.
